Important info

Not allowed: Pets and smoking inside the cabin. We wish to keep our cabin free of allergens.

Sign in and Sign-out

There is a locked key box on the left side of the door. You get a code 1-2 days before your arrival. Please leave the key in the box at all times to avoid losing it. Sign-in time is 3 pm to ensure the cottage is clean and ready for your arrival. Always check in advance if you plan to sign in early (subject to availability).

Sign-out time is 11 am. Please put the dishes in the washing machine and turn it on so the cleaner has time to arrange the next visitor’s sign-in as smoothly as yours.

Wi-Fi

Wi-fi is Levi Log Cabin and the password is logcabin20.

Fireplace

Remember to open the fireplace damper before you light the fire. Before lighting up the fire, you must open the damper by pulling it out. You can find more firewood in the storage room on the terrace. The door opens with the same key as the main entrance. The fireplace stores the heat beautifully. Please remember that upstairs gets hotter than downstairs, and it may get too hot to sleep upstairs.

Sledges

You can find sledges to use in the storage room on the terrace. Please remember to return them. Sledge is also handy for grocery shopping. You can also use Stiga, but please take a lock with you if you plan to leave it somewhere. People don’t take the sledges because they’d like to steal them, but many tourists assume the sledges are common property, so please keep an eye on them.

Tap water

Tap water is potable and much better than bottled water. So leave your Evian at the shop and enjoy ice-cold water straight from the tap.

Food and alcohol

There are two supermarkets in Levi, each from a different Finnish chain: Levimarket (K-market) and S-Market. Levimarket has a broader selection of food and plenty of other goods, toys, etc. You name it, they most likely have it. They also have a choice of fresh meat, fish and some ready-made food (sushi every Friday). S-Market has all the basics, and next to it is Alko, which is a liquor store. In Finland, you can only buy mild alcohol in a grocery store (beer, cider, mild wine). Should you wish to have a specific wine or strong alcohol, you need to head to Alko. There is an age restriction of 18 to buy any alcohol and 20 to purchase strong (more than 22%) alcohol. Please also note that you can only purchase alcohol products from 9 am to 9 pm and that Alko has separate opening hours from S-market.

One important product is milk and as it’s a bit tricky to know which to buy, so here is a quick guide for that too.

Rasvaton maito – skimmed milk, kevytmaito – semi skimmed milk, täysmaito – full fat milk, laktoositon – lactose free, luomu – organic. Maitojuoma is a milk drink, similar to milk but cheaper. Oat milk is called kauramaito, but most products have the word “oat” in their names.

Suomesta means from Finland, suomalainen is Finnish. Lähiruokaa means locally produced. Luomu is organic.

Parasta ennen means best before and viimeinen käyttöpäivä means expiration date.

Cleaning during the week

The cabin will be cleaned only at the end of your stay. Please note that, should you need cleaning during your stay or extra clean sheets, these will be available at an additional cost. The cabin is fully equipped for cleaning, including a washing machine and a drying cabinet. Please let us know if anything is missing, broken, or needs extra cleaning so we can take care of it as soon as possible.

Emergency number

The emergency number in Finland is 112. You can call in Finnish, English, Swedish and Russian. The address is Viprakka 4A, Kittilä. The fire extinguisher is in the hallway, and the fire blanket is on the kitchen wall. Fire alarms are checked regularly.

Doctor

You can find private doctors in the village and public healthcare a bit further from Levi. There is one pharmacy next to the K-Market. Please note that most medicines, including basic painkillers, are not sold in regular stores.

Recycling

When you buy sodas, beer or wine, the bottles and cans have a deposit of around 0,10€-0,40€ (depending on the size of the bottle). This means that when you return your bottles and cans to pullonpalautus (machine both in Levimarket and S-Market), you get money back! You get a receipt from a machine, and you can cash it in the shop/Alko. In S-Market, there is also a red mail box for those who wish to give their cents to charity.

Glass containers, metals, cardboard, plastics and used batteries can be returned at the recycling bins at the parking lot of S-Market or near the roundabout, around 150 meters “uphill” from the cabin. You can also leave these at the cabin, and our maintenance will sort them out. Standard paper and plastic wrappings, you can just put them in the mixed waste. Unfortunately, there is no dedicated bin for food waste, so please buy only what you can consume and place the rest in the mixed waste bin.
